- Bandai (traditional sento reception desk)
In 2017 our sento celebrated its 100th anniversary, and it retains the atmosphere of the good old days. In 2002 it was designated a Kyoto City Historic Architectural Landmark.
After passing through noren curtains at the front of the historic building, you will find shoe boxes and then the bandai (reception desk). On entering the dressing room, on the men’s side you will be captivated by a tile mosaic of Kinkaku-ji Temple at the entrance to the bathing room, and on the women’s side a mosaic of Kiyomizu-dera Temple. While bathing at a sento, you will feel as if you are viewing some of Kyoto’s famous sights.
Our water is subterranean (well) water heated with a wood fire, and makes for delightful bathing. We look forward to seeing you.
